Camping can be enjoyable, but similar to general travel, packing might be the most challenging aspect.
You must consider clothing, food, and other essentials you need or anticipate needing.
You may discover that you require more water than you initially brought. This can be quite a hassle, but don't worry. With some advance planning, you can always obtain additional clean drinking water.
You want to find running water. (rivers, streams, etc). This is the main starting point. Stagnant water like bogs and swamps carry a high potential of carrying various parasites, bacteria, and fungi
These water born germs may may cause life threatening diseases listed below.
Cholera -
Cholera is a bacterial illness transmitted via contaminated water and food. It can lead to severe diarrhea, dehydration, and potentially death if not treated. Individuals residing in areas with unsafe drinking water
Dysentery -
Dysentery is a gastrointestinal illness. It results in severe diarrhea with blood or mucus present. Dysentery is primarily categorized into two types:
Amoebic dysentery (amoebiasis): The parasite Entamoeba histolytica (E. histolytica) is a primary cause of amoebic dysentery. Other parasites responsible for amoebic dysentery include Balantidium coli (B. coli) and strongyloidiasis.
Bacillary dysentery: Bacillary dysentery is caused by a bacterial infection. The most frequent bacteria responsible for this condition include Shigella, Salmonella, Campylobacter, and Escherichia coli (E. coli). It is the most prevalent form of dysentery.
Typhoid -
Typhoid, also commonly referred to as Typhoid fever, is a potentially fatal infection caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi. It is typically transmitted through contaminated food or water. After ingestion, the Salmonella Typhi bacteria multiply and enter the bloodstream
The simplest method to obtain clean drinking water is by boiling it.
While boiling water is an ancient technique for purifying it, it does necessitate preparation. You need to have fuel for a fire and the means to boil the water. If you're merely on a hike, you might not have the right container to boil water.
Water purification tablets are easy to carry and use, but ensure you adhere to the packaging instructions for dosage and waiting time.
Filters can eliminate larger particles and certain microorganisms; however, for full purification, it's advisable to use a filter along with chemical treatment to target viruses. I recommend the use of a filter and boiling to ensure the water you're about to consume goes down well and doesn't come back up as one of the diseases listed above
